Overview of the Benchtop Environmental Chamber

The QualiXenon 100 benchtop environmental chamber delivers artificial accelerated exposure testing directly onto your facility workbench.

Measuring 950 mm by 570 mm by 540 mm (37.4 by 22.44 by 21 inches) with a total net mass of 93 kg (gross shipping weight of 130 kg), this self-contained laboratory unit employs a single air-cooled 1.8 kW xenon burner made in the United States to replicate full spectrum sunlight and filtered radiation. A specialized optical build spreads exposure across an ample 1,000 square centimeter sample tray, which holds up to nine standard 150 mm by 70 mm coupons at one time.

Assembled with a corrosion-resistant SUS304 stainless steel interior and a protective powder-coated exterior shell, the apparatus provides American manufacturing and quality inspection teams with repeatable material degradation data.

An integrated closed-loop feedback sensor automatically counters light intensity variations as the burner ages across its 2,000-hour operational lifespan, giving you dependable test results across long inspection shifts without requiring routine manual resets.

Compliance and Industry Standards

For testing facilities across the United States validating goods against strict consensus standards, this equipment conforms with recognized test protocols established by the American Society for Testing and Materials:

  • ASTM G155: Standard practice for operating xenon arc light apparatus for exposure of non-metallic materials
  • ASTM G151: Standard practice for exposing nonmetallic materials in accelerated test devices that utilize laboratory light sources
  • ASTM D6695: Standard practice for xenon-arc exposures of paint and related coatings
  • ASTM D3424: Standard practice for evaluating the relative lightfastness and weatherability of printed matter
  • ASTM D5071: Standard practice for exposure of photodegradable plastics in a xenon arc apparatus
  • ASTM C1442: Standard practice for conducting tests on sealants using artificial weathering apparatus
  • ASTM C1501: Standard test method for color stability of building construction sealants

For American suppliers distributing products into overseas accounts, the unit also aligns with secondary international benchmarks:

  • ISO 4892-1 and ISO 4892-2: Accelerated laboratory exposure methods using filtered xenon-arc lamps for plastics
  • ISO 4049: Polymer-based restorative materials testing
  • ISO 7491: Determination of color stability for dental materials

By maintaining strict conformance with these published procedures, the unit functions as a dependable automotive test chamber and general degradation tester across domestic quality labs.

Key Features and Technical Capabilities

The QualiXenon 100 incorporates practical, lab-ready engineering features:

  • American-Made Xenon Burner and Optical Assembly: Fitted with a 1.8 kW air-cooled xenon lamp produced in the United States, the chamber delivers operating lifetimes up to 2,000 hours. The custom optical geometry casts uniform light across all nine test specimens on the 1,000 cm² tray.
  • Closed-Loop Irradiance Regulation: Internal monitoring continuously manages radiation levels. When placing an order, you can specify narrow-band monitoring at 340 nm (0.3 to 0.8 W/m²) or 420 nm (0.5 to 1.5 W/m²), or choose broad-band monitoring across 300 nm to 400 nm (30 to 100 W/m²). Operators can recalibrate irradiance values directly at the machine.
  • Extended UV Filtration: The machine comes equipped with extended ultraviolet filters that let short-wavelength radiation below standard natural ground-level sunlight pass through, reproducing extraterrestrial conditions for faster evaluations. Daylight filtration and window glass assemblies are also selectable options.
  • Automated Black Panel Temperature Control: A high-precision Pt100 platinum resistance sensor manages specimen surface temperatures between room temperature plus 20 degrees Celsius and 90 degrees Celsius, depending on ambient room conditions and selected irradiance intensity.
  • Slide-Out Specimen Carrier: A sliding coupon tray lets technicians insert, inspect, and remove 150 mm by 70 mm sample panels smoothly, decreasing turnover intervals between test cycles.
  • Built-In System Safeguards: Multi-stage safety controls protect your facility, featuring automatic black panel over-temperature shut-off, irradiance variance warnings, low air pressure alerts, and an automated equipment shut-down whenever the front access door is opened.
  • Color Touchscreen and USB Data Logging: Operators can program test run duration, thermal levels, and radiant parameters through a color screen. Real-time test telemetry exports onto standard USB storage drives, facilitating unattended overnight shifts.
  • Compact Benchtop Footprint: Sized to sit directly on standard industrial workbenches, these benchtop chambers accommodate US commercial electrical services with 220V 50/60 Hz or optional 110V line configurations, drawing a maximum current of 12A with a 2.5 kW maximum electrical demand.

Target Applications and Operating Environments

Domestic quality assurance teams and testing labs use this apparatus to determine how synthetic and natural formulations withstand sunlight and thermal stress. Running an accelerated xenon test inside the chamber identifies critical polymer breakdown signs before components reach commercial distribution:

  • Paints and Protective Coatings: Identifying color fading, loss of surface gloss, chalking, peeling, and flaking
  • Automotive Interior and Exterior Components: Assessing resin degradation, thermal cracking, and pigment fading for domestic automotive supply chains
  • Plastic and Polymer Products: Evaluating embrittlement, oxidation, and loss of tensile strength
  • Wood Finishes and Sealers: Checking clear-coat breakdown and surface cracking
  • Industrial Adhesives: Examining joint bonding degradation, yellowing, and cohesion loss

Facility and Operating Environment Requirements

The chamber is built for indoor commercial testing facilities, plant laboratories, and quality inspection bays. It does not require special outdoor enclosures or walk-in environmental suites.

The SUS304 stainless steel interior chamber tolerates chemical outgassing during high-temperature cycles, while the powder-coated exterior holds up through daily commercial testing routines. To maintain the black panel temperature within its verified span of ambient plus 20 degrees Celsius to 90 degrees Celsius, position the apparatus on a level, sturdy workbench inside an indoor, climate-controlled testing room supplied with a dedicated 220V (or 110V) electrical connection.
