RDE-OES Integrated Elemental Analyzer – QualiRDE™ 1000

The QualiRDE™ 1000 RDE-OES Integrated Elemental Analyzer provides maintenance teams and laboratories with a fast, reliable solution for measuring wear metals, contaminants, and additive elements in used oils and related fluids. Designed for direct oil analysis without sample pretreatment, this compact benchtop system helps reduce testing time while supporting condition monitoring, equipment reliability programs, and predictive maintenance strategies.

Built as an all-in-one elemental analysis platform, the QualiRDE™ 1000 integrates a motorized grinding unit, CCD detector, digital arc excitation system, and Windows-based software for instrument control, data processing, and results management. Its compact footprint makes it an excellent choice for laboratories seeking a practical RDE-OES solution that delivers rapid analysis, straightforward operation, and consistent performance.

Developed for used oil analysis, hydraulic fluid monitoring, and maintenance-focused elemental testing, the QualiRDE™ 1000 features a Paschen-Runge optical system with a Roland circle configuration, 500 mm focal length, and CCD detector covering a wide wavelength range from 190 to 800 nm. This design supports accurate multi-element detection across a broad spectrum of applications.

The integrated benchtop configuration combines the analyzer, computer system, and grinding unit into a single platform, simplifying installation and daily operation. Samples can be analyzed directly from the sample cup without dilution or pretreatment. Routine testing does not require argon, oxygen, or chemical solvents, helping streamline laboratory workflows while supporting both laboratory and field-service oil analysis requirements.

RDE-OES Integrated Elemental Analyzer – QualiRDE™ 1000 Applications

Predictive Maintenance

The QualiRDE™ 1000 supports predictive maintenance programs by tracking wear metals such as iron, copper, chromium, and aluminum at ppm concentrations. This information helps maintenance teams detect abnormal equipment wear at an early stage, enabling timely corrective actions and reducing the risk of costly downtime.

Lubricant and Hydraulic Fluid Monitoring

The analyzer helps evaluate lubricant health by monitoring additive depletion, contamination, and wear-related particles in used oils and hydraulic fluids. It is well suited for identifying dirt ingress, coolant leaks, and other fluid-related issues that can impact equipment performance and reliability.

Remote, Marine, and Space-Constrained Laboratories

With its compact benchtop footprint and rapid startup capabilities, the QualiRDE™ 1000 is ideal for laboratories with limited space as well as remote and marine maintenance environments. Its integrated design supports efficient elemental analysis where installation space and operational simplicity are important considerations.

Routine Industrial Oil Analysis

Designed for direct oil testing without sample pretreatment, the QualiRDE™ 1000 streamlines routine industrial oil analysis workflows. Fast analysis times and user-friendly operation help laboratories increase sample throughput while maintaining consistent monitoring of equipment and fluid condition.

Standards

  • ASTM D6595 – Standard test method for determining wear metals, contaminant elements, and additive metals in used lubricating oils and hydraulic fluids using Rotating Disc Electrode Optical Emission Spectrometry (RDE-OES). This standard is widely used for condition monitoring, machinery health assessment, and predictive maintenance programs.

  • ASTM D6728 – Standard test method for determining contaminant elements in gas turbine and diesel engine fuels using Rotating Disc Electrode Optical Emission Spectrometry (RDE-OES). The method supports fuel quality monitoring and helps identify contamination that may affect equipment performance and reliability.

Theory and Method

RDE-OES (Rotating Disc Electrode Optical Emission Spectrometry) is a widely used elemental analysis technique for identifying and measuring wear metals, contaminant elements, and additive components in oils and related fluids. During analysis, the sample is energized through an electrical discharge, causing the elements present to emit light at specific wavelengths. The emitted light is then measured to determine the concentration of each element, supporting equipment condition monitoring, lubricant evaluation, and predictive maintenance programs.

The QualiRDE™ 1000 combines a digital arc excitation system, high-resolution CCD detector, and advanced spectral analysis software to deliver rapid multi-element analysis. The system captures elemental emission signals across a broad spectral range and processes the data using sophisticated algorithms for calibration correction, background compensation, and spectral interference reduction. This approach helps provide reliable and repeatable analytical results for routine oil analysis, hydraulic fluid monitoring, and maintenance-focused testing applications.
