Portable Liquid and Oil Particle Counter – QualiOPC™ 400H

Reliable oil cleanliness monitoring is critical when contamination data must be captured quickly, accurately, and outside traditional laboratory environments. The QualiOPCâ„¢ 400H is a portable oil particle counter engineered for both offline and online particle contamination analysis in oils and liquids using an optical light-blocking detection principle.

It is designed for a wide range of fluids, including hydraulic oil, lubricating oil, transformer insulating oil, turbine oil, gear oil, engine oil, aviation kerosene, water-based hydraulic fluids, organic liquids, and polymer solutions.

Built for both field and laboratory environments, this portable system integrates a semiconductor laser, 32 configurable detection channels, onboard data processing, and battery-powered operation within a rugged carry-case design. It is well-suited for demanding applications in military, aerospace, power generation, and transportation sectors, where fluid cleanliness monitoring directly supports maintenance planning and equipment reliability.

The QualiOPCâ„¢ 400H delivers precise measurement of suspended particle size and concentration in service fluids, enabling users to assess contamination levels, detect irregular particle presence, and support preventive maintenance strategies. Its dual-mode capability allows both offline sampling and online measurement, making it ideal for spot inspections, maintenance validation, and routine quality control workflows.

Engineered around the optical light-blocking method, the system features a high-stability semiconductor laser and a sensitive particle counting sensor. It also includes an industrial control platform, multiple calibration curve options, integrated data output functions, and a portable housing designed for easy transport and on-site operation. Built-in lithium battery support and optional accessories further enhance usability for higher-pressure and high-viscosity applications.

Portable Liquid and Oil Particle Counter – QualiOPC™ 400H Applications

Portable Liquid and Oil Particle Counter

The QualiOPCâ„¢ 400H supports a wide range of contamination monitoring needs across industrial and field environments, delivering accurate particle analysis for multiple fluid types and operating conditions.

Hydraulic and Lubricating Oil Monitoring:
The QualiOPCâ„¢ 400H is suitable for particle contamination analysis in hydraulic oil, lubricating oil, turbine oil, gear oil, and engine oil. It helps maintenance teams track fluid cleanliness, identify abnormal wear-related debris, and optimize service schedules based on real contamination trends.

Transformer and Insulating Oil Analysis:
This system is well-suited for portable contamination checks in insulating oils used within electrical power infrastructure. It supports routine diagnostics in transformers and related systems where fluid purity is essential for operational stability and asset protection.

Aerospace, Military, and Transportation Applications:
Typical use cases include contamination assessment of aviation hydraulic fluids, turbine oils, fuels, and lubricants used in mobile and heavy-duty equipment. These environments require strict particle control to maintain reliability, safety, and consistent performance.

Water-Containing Oil Monitoring:
The QualiOPCâ„¢ 400H also provides water-content measurement capability within a range of 10 ppm to 500 ppm. This adds value for users who require both portable particle counting and basic moisture evaluation in oil samples, supporting more complete fluid condition assessment.

Standards

The QualiOPCâ„¢ 400H aligns with widely recognized international and industry standards for particle contamination measurement and fluid cleanliness classification, supporting consistent and comparable results across applications.

  • ISO 4402 – Reference standard for hydraulic fluid particle counting and calibration procedures

  • ISO 11171 – Calibration and verification framework for automatic particle counting systems

  • ISO 4406 – Fluid cleanliness coding system for hydraulic and lubricating oil applications

  • NAS 1638 – Contamination classification standard widely used in aerospace and precision hydraulic systems

  • SAE AS4059E / SAE AS4059F – Aerospace cleanliness classification standards for particulate contamination in fluids

  • ROCT 17216 – Standard for contamination level classification in technical fluids

  • JTS-005 – Industrial reference standard for fluid cleanliness evaluation

Theory and Method

The QualiOPCâ„¢ 400H operates on the optical light-blocking technique, also known as the shading or photoresist method. In this process, particles suspended in a fluid pass through a laser-illuminated sensing zone and partially obstruct the light beam. These signal variations are then processed to determine both particle size distribution and particle concentration.

This measurement approach is widely adopted in liquid contamination analysis because it enables direct detection of solid particles within oils and related fluids, providing reliable data for fluid cleanliness evaluation.

The system supports both offline bottle sampling and online measurement configurations. For online operation, it typically functions within a pressure range of 0.1 to 0.6 MPa. An optional pressure-reducing device allows measurement under higher-pressure conditions of up to 40 MPa.

Additional optional configurations include pressure and vacuum sample chambers designed for high-viscosity fluids, along with sample degassing support to improve measurement stability and accuracy in challenging fluid conditions.
