Handheld Thermal Camera – QualiTC™ 17
The QualiTC™ 17 handheld thermal camera is a high-resolution thermal imaging device designed for electricians, HVAC technicians, building inspectors, and maintenance professionals who need detailed temperature analysis. It combines a 256 × 192 thermal sensor with a 720P visible-light camera to provide sharper thermal images alongside clear visual references. This dual-camera configuration helps identify faults in electrical panels, floor heating systems, plumbing networks, power distribution equipment, and other inspection applications.
With a temperature measurement range of -20°C to 550°C (-4°F to 1022°F), the QualiTC™ 17 supports a wide range of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and building inspection tasks. Its high-resolution thermal sensor helps users identify temperature variations and potential problem areas with greater image detail than lower-resolution thermal cameras.
Advanced Thermal Imaging Modes
The QualiTC™ 17 provides multiple image display options, including outline fusion, overlay fusion, and picture-in-picture (PIP). These modes combine thermal information with visible-light imagery, making it easier to locate hot spots, cold areas, and other temperature-related issues within their physical surroundings.
A built-in high-temperature alarm provides both visual and audible alerts when a measured temperature exceeds a preset threshold. The camera also features high- and low-temperature tracking, automatically identifying the hottest or coldest point within the viewed area. With a 25 Hz refresh rate, the thermal display remains responsive while scanning equipment and moving through inspection areas.
Image and Video Storage
The QualiTC™ 17 includes 8GB of built-in storage for saving thermal images and video recordings during inspections. Stored files can be transferred to a computer through the USB Type-C interface, providing a convenient way to review, document, and share inspection results.
Battery and Measurement Performance
A rechargeable 2600 mAh lithium battery provides approximately four hours of continuous operation, supporting extended inspection sessions without frequent charging. The camera also features distance compensation up to 5 meters, helping maintain reliable temperature measurements when inspecting equipment from a practical working distance.
Compact Design for Field Inspections
Measuring 70 × 80 × 200 mm and weighing approximately 310 grams, the QualiTC™ 17 has a compact, lightweight design that fits easily into a tool bag or inspection kit. Its operating temperature range of -10°C to 60°C and storage temperature range of -40°C to 85°C make it suitable for a variety of job-site, maintenance, and transportation conditions.
Whether used for electrical inspections, HVAC troubleshooting, building diagnostics, floor heating checks, plumbing inspections, or power equipment maintenance, the QualiTC™ 17 provides high-resolution thermal imaging with visible-light reference, advanced fusion modes, temperature tracking, and field-ready portability.
Handheld Thermal Camera - QualiTC™ 17 Applications

The QualiTC™ 17 handheld thermal camera combines high-resolution thermal imaging with visible-light fusion to support fast and accurate diagnostics across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and residential inspection applications. Its 5-meter distance compensation allows users to assess equipment and surfaces that may be difficult or unsafe to approach directly.
-
Electrical Inspections and Power Systems: Detects temperature increases around breakers, connectors, wiring, and distribution equipment, helping identify potential electrical faults before they result in equipment damage, outages, or fire hazards.
-
Floor Heating and Radiant System Diagnostics: Visualizes heating element layouts beneath flooring and helps identify cold spots, uneven heat distribution, or failed heating zones without removing the floor surface.
-
Plumbing and Water Leak Detection: Identifies temperature variations and moisture-related patterns behind walls, beneath floors, and around plumbing systems, supporting non-destructive leak investigation.
-
Mechanical Equipment Monitoring: Helps identify abnormal heat from motors, bearings, pumps, and other mechanical components during routine maintenance and equipment inspections. The extended measurement distance supports inspections from a practical working position.
-
Building and Home Inspection: Helps locate insulation deficiencies, air leakage, moisture intrusion, and temperature differences throughout residential and commercial properties. Visible-light imaging provides additional visual context for documenting inspection findings.
-
Power Line and Substation Spot Checks: The 5-meter distance compensation supports temperature measurements on electrical equipment positioned farther from the operator, making the camera useful for selected power distribution and substation inspection tasks.

Theory and Method
The QualiTC™ 17 handheld thermal camera detects infrared energy emitted by surfaces above absolute zero and converts that energy into a visual representation of temperature. It operates in the 8 to 14 micrometer long-wave infrared (LWIR) band using a 256 × 192 microbolometer array, providing four times the pixel count of a 120 × 90 thermal sensor. Each microbolometer responds to absorbed infrared energy by changing its electrical resistance. The camera's onboard processor analyzes these resistance changes and converts them into temperature data for individual pixels, producing a detailed false-color thermal image.
A secondary 720P visible-light camera captures a conventional image of the same inspection area alongside the thermal image. The camera system accounts for the positional difference between the thermal and visible sensors and aligns the images to provide a more accurate visual reference. Outline fusion places visible-image edges over the thermal image, while overlay fusion combines thermal and visible information at an adjustable ratio. Picture-in-picture (PIP) displays a thermal image window within the visible-light frame, giving users multiple ways to interpret thermal data within its physical surroundings.
The 5-meter distance compensation feature adjusts temperature calculations to account for changes in infrared signal as it travels through the air. This extends the correction distance beyond the 2-meter range commonly found on entry-level thermal cameras. During an inspection, high- and low-temperature tracking continuously identifies the hottest and coldest points within the viewed area.
For detailed post-inspection analysis, the companion 3D thermal analysis software can reconstruct a spatial model from captured thermal images. This provides additional insight into temperature distribution and helps users review thermal patterns after field measurements are complete.
