Theory and Method
The QualiTC™ 10 infrared thermal imaging camera operates on the principle that objects above absolute zero emit infrared radiation related to their temperature. Based on the principles of Planck’s law of thermal radiation, the camera detects this infrared energy and converts it into thermal information that can be displayed as an image.
The QualiTC™ 10 detects infrared radiation within the 8–14 μm long-wave infrared (LWIR) wavelength range using an uncooled microbolometer detector array with 120 × 90 elements. Each detector element responds to incoming infrared radiation by changing its electrical resistance. The camera processes these changes to calculate temperature information for individual pixels across the thermal image.
Thermal Image Processing
The camera's onboard TisoView image enhancement algorithm processes the detector data to produce a clearer thermal image. Non-uniformity correction helps compensate for variations between detector elements, while contrast enhancement improves the visibility of thermal patterns and temperature differences across the 38° × 50° field of view.
With a NETD of 60 mK at 25°C, the QualiTC™ 10 can distinguish relatively small temperature differences. This sensitivity helps technicians identify subtle changes in surface temperature and differentiate potential hot components from surrounding areas with similar thermal conditions.
Temperature Measurement and Distance Compensation
The QualiTC™ 10 includes distance compensation for measurements taken within two meters of the target. This function helps account for changes in infrared signal transmission through the air, supporting more consistent temperature readings during close-range inspections.
A built-in laser indicator provides a visible reference point to help technicians identify the approximate measurement location. This is particularly useful when targeting small components or specific areas during an inspection.
